computer strategy board games

a computer games whose main focus is strategy of one player against another or against others.

there are two main variants.

1) non time based.

in this case you are free to develop your strategy without regard to other players having to wait for you. in most cases this type of game is played against computer AI opponents. the best example is Sid Meier's Civilization.

2) time based.

more popularly called RTS or "real time strategy" games. in that the clock is ticking the player is forced to abandon deep strategy in many cases in order just to survive. one of the more popular games in this category is Microsoft's Age of Empire.

NOTE: the category of "computer strategy board games" does not include purely abstract (computer) board games such as Chess, Checkers, and Blokus.
