World of Darkness

A family of role-playing games published by White Wolf, and focussing on supernatural beings, generally accursed, living settings resembling the modern and historical real world.

In August 2004, with the publication of Vampire: the Requiem, White Wolf began a relaunch of its World of Darkness setting. Intended to exist independently of everything published previously, the relaunch became known as the New World of Darkness, or nWoD. Reflexively, the first World of Darkness was called the Old World of Darkness, or oWoD; sometimes it is referred to as Classic World of Darkness.
