Jason Vey's Spellcraft & Swordplay presents a unique mixture of old-school feel and new-school mechanics. Taking its cue from 70s Whitebox D&D, the game replaces standard D&D combat with a system derived from Gary Gygax's miniatures game Chainmail, and a new version of Vancian magic that allows for repeated casting barring spell failure. At the same time, like Castles & Crusades, it offers a universal mechanic for task resolution, more in line with contemporary game design.
