Hecatomb was a collectible card game released by Wizards of the Coast in 2005. It used pentagonal plastic cards. Each player is an "endbringer", trying to bring about the end of the world by creating monstrous abominations and stealing souls from the other players. Many of the monsters are based on Aztec mythology and the works of HP Lovecraft.
The gameplay is reminiscent of Wizards' popular Magic: the Gathering game, with some significant differences. There are 4 factions: Greed, Corruption, Deception, and Destruction. Instead of having a separate card type for resources, any card may be played to generate mana; these go into the Mana Zone. Your Minions (monsters) stack on top of each other to form abominations, which you can then send out to fight other abominations and reap souls. Each card has 4 clear edges. When you stack one minion on top of another, you rotate it so that the strength statistic and special ability of the minion below it show through (abominations' strength is the combined strength of all of its minions, and it gains all of their abilities as well). The first player to gain 20 souls wins.
Wizards released two expansions for the game: the Halloween-themed Last Hallows' Eve, and the alien-themed Blanket of Lies.
