Deadlands is a family of alternate history settings used in tabletop roleplaying games, strategy games, and fiction. History diverges in 1863, when a conduit is opened to a spiritual realm inhabited by demonic beings called "Reckoners". Each of the 4 variants of Deadlands involves elements of fantasy and horror.

In Deadlands: The Weird West, a covert war is being waged against the Reckoners in the American West in the late 19th Century. This variant has elements of the western and steampunk genres. Deadlands Noir is set in the early to mid 20th Century, with elements of noir and dieselpunk. Deadlands: Hell on Earth is a late 21st Century post-apocalyptic variant of the setting, with elements of magitech. Deadlands: Lost Colony is set on an alien planet, in the same time period as Hell on Earth.

Deadlands began as a roleplaying game entitled Deadlands: The Weird West, set in the eponymous variant of the setting. It was originally released with its own custom rules system, sometimes called Deadlands Classic. It was subsequently converted to d20 (as Deadlands D20), GURPS (as GURPS Deadlands), and Savage Worlds (as Deadlands Reloaded). Hell on Earth, Lost Colony, and Deadlands Noir have only been published with the Savage Worlds rules.

The GURPS version of the RPG was created for the Third Edition rules, but can be converted to Fourth Edition without much trouble, with the help of the GURPS Update conversion guide. The magic system can be used as-is, since it is a version of the default GURPS magic system modified to fit the setting. Harrowed or Blessed characters could be confusing to convert, however. Players can get help on the Steve Jackson Games GURPS Forum if needed.
