Advanced Dungeons & Dragons

17 Variants History Edit

AD&D stands for "Advanced" Dungeons and Dragons and is also commonly known as D&D 1st Edition aka "Old School" and AD&D 2nd Edition. TSR published all second edition products under the logo "AD&D 2nd Edition" to differentiated it from 1st. There are many differences in the two versions, but most people still lump them together. Collectively the two versions all but ruled the pen and paper roleplaying community for two decades before D&D 3rd Edition was released, and they still have many loyal adherents. There are also efforts to go back to "First edition feel", for example HackMaster and Castles & Crusades.
