I host several gaming groups in Merced. We typically run D&D 3.5 edition rules, while using Eclipse: The Codex Persona for the character and race creation. Eclipse is a Classless, point buy system that makes all characters a single concept class of your choosing. It's an awesome system that we enjoy.
