41, I've been roleplaying since middle school. I prefer characters with meaningful stories, and an overall campaign that grows out of the characters' stories.

I'm still fairly in the "traditional" gaming camp... I find a lot of useful stuff in story-games, but they're not my bread-and-butter. My focus is on playing a role, though a story is inevitable and a good story is what I'm looking for... but always, through the lens of playing a role, not narrating a story.

Strangely, I have found myself playing D&D 4E and really enjoying it, when I haven't played D&D in years, and generally considered D&D to be the opposite of what I was looking for in a game.
