National Novel Writing Month Anyone?

A friend of mine signed up for this and sent me the link. I'm planning on attempting it, and hopefully I'll get to the 50,000 words goal :)

In that vein, I was just wondering if anyone here was involved or was thinking about getting involved?

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Just an update, I'm almost at 40K and have 5 days to go... thinking that I'll just squeak over the 50K mark by the 30th!

MADE IT!

Well, final score 50,070 words and still need to write at least 5 times that to finish the book, but the goal of NaNoWriMo was 50K so for 2009 I'm what they call a winner...

Congrats! One of my roommates just stumbled home from a NaNo wrapup party, looks like it was a lot of fun to reach that goal.

It was our first year, and for me it took a great deal of effort, I just squeaked in on the 29th with two 10 hour writing marathons on the Sat and Sun LOL
