Indie gamer new to the LA area

I'm going to moving down into the LA area in August, and I was hoping to make a few gaming contacts before I got there. Mostly, I'm into indie games, and am up for pretty much any sort of story game that you can think of, although I don't have a HUGE amount of actual gaming experience behind me. I'm not necessarily interested in finding a regular weekly group, as my PhD studies are probably going to keep me pretty busy, but I have a bunch of ideas for one-shots and shorter campaigns that I'd love to put together with some interested parties.
